Mphangera Kamanga

Mphangera Kamanga is an award-winning Agricultural Scientist, Monintoring and Evaluation Expert, and Social Innovator with over 10 years of experience working across Malawi, South Africa, Mexico and Zambia. She holds an MSc in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Pretoria, Bachelor of Science Hons Environmental and Geographical Sciences from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture (University of Malawi) and is recognized through prestigious awards such as the MasterCard Foundation, AWARD Fellowship (Top 70 Young African Agricultural Scientists), Golden Scholar Award, awarded by the American Society of Agronomy for her Research work, EU–FAO–Wageningen research grants, and a 2025 Anzisha Prize Winner. Mphangera previously served with the Palladium Group as the MEL Manager under USAID Feed the Future programs, leading advanced MEL systems, geospatial analytics, and data-driven decision-making in agricultural value chains. She has also participated in international research trainings and presented her work in France, Germany, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Mexico and Sri Lanka, among other countries. As Founder & CEO of HarvestGlow, she has supported over 100,000 farmers and youth through certified seed systems, agribusiness incubation, and solar-powered nutrition technologies. Her expertise include Agronomy, climate modelling, value chain development (soybean, groundnuts, sunflower, potato, dairy, beef, honey), digital analytics (Power BI, ODK, QGIS, R, SPSS, STATA), and youth-led food systems innovation championing inclusive, climate-resilient agricultural transformation across Africa and beyond. She has a strong track record in fundraising, successfully securing multiple grants and investments to advance community-driven agricultural and nutrition innovations. Her ability to cultivate strategic partnerships and communicate impact effectively has enabled HarvestGlow to grow and expand their reach across rural Malawi.

She excels in preparing accurate financial reports, managing reconciliations, and tracking expenses to ensure compliance with budgets and regulations. Her expertise in conducting compliance, value-for-money, and information systems audits ensures adherence to policies and maintains data integrity. Clara’s multitasking capabilities, clear communication with teams and stakeholders, and proficiency in accounting systems enhance her efficiency in data entry and financial record-keeping. He holds a Bachelor of Education in Computer Science from the University of Malawi and a Certificate in Primary Education from Chiradzulu Teachers Training College. With over six years of experience in the education and ICT sectors, Omexie has taught at both primary and secondary levels, including Jacaranda Foundation and School and currently at Mfera Community Day Secondary School (CDSS). Omexie is also the creator of Sintho, an AI-driven School Management System that has earned recognition from the Ministry of Education, the National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST), and UNDP Malawi under the Growth Accelerator program. A recognized young leader, he previously served as President of the University of Malawi Computing Society and has represented Malawi in several regional and international competitions, including: - Huawei ICT Competition (Regional Finalist, 2023) - Muuni Fund Regional Finalist (2024/2025) for his Tsangano Irish Potato Web System for Farmers - Growth Accelerator Malawi (UNDP Recognition, 2025) for Sintho Innovation In 2025, he presented his research and innovations at the 5th National Research Dissemination Conference (NRDC) organized by NCST.

Doreen Mfune

Doreen is studying towards an MSc in Environmental Management and works as an Environmental and Social Safeguard Officer at Harvest Glow. She helps in ensuring projects comply with environmental laws through impact assessments and audits, manages social impacts on communities, prepares sustainability reports, engages stakeholders, develops risk mitigation plans, monitors performance, conducts training, secures permits, identifies risks, advocates for sustainability, and provides improvement recommendations to management. With skills in GIS, data analysis (ODK, Excel, STATA), and project monitoring, she brings expertise from roles at Projex Group and Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, focusing on safety, environmental inspections, and community welfare

Sarah is a development practitioner with a Bachelor of Science in Development Studies, specializing in community development, gender issues, food security, VSL management, and human rights. She brings a passionate and results-oriented approach to her work, with hands-on experience in community mobilization, VSL tracking, and coordinating project activities. Sarah excels in monitoring and evaluating programs, overseeing data collection and management, preparing detailed progress reports, and following up to ensure services meet their objectives. Additionally, she equips farmers with entrepreneurial skills to unlock their potential and contributes to evidence-based decision-making through accurate and timely reporting.

Dr Grace Ramafi

Dr. Grace Ramafi is the Programme Manager for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She holds a PhD in Immunology and brings extensive expertise in higher education management, youth development, and programme implementation. In her role, she oversees strategy, operations, and stakeholder engagement for a continent-wide scholarship initiative that empowers high-potential young Africans through academic, leadership, and psychosocial support. Dr. Ramafi has played a key role in expanding programme reach, promoting refugee inclusion, and strengthening institutional partnerships to drive sustainable impact across Africa.

Maurice  is an agricultural development specialist from Malawi, with over two decades of experience in research, extension services and climate‑smart agriculture. He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Development Studies and is currently pursuing a PhD in International and Rural Development at the University of Reading. Maurice has worked with smallholder farmers to implement participatory climate‑services models (such as the PICSA approach) that help farmers adapt to changing weather patterns and improve resilience. He has also been active in agricultural advisory advocacy, including lobbying for improved national funding and policy for extension services.

Dr. Veronica is a Plant Breeder recognized for her pioneering work in wheat pre-breeding, genetics, and agronomy. She currently serves as a Scientist and Head of Wheat Wide Crossing under the Global Wheat Program at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). Her research focuses on cytogenetics, wild relative introgressions, genetic and agronomic biofortification, and seed systems development, all aimed at strengthening food security and climate resilience in Africa and beyond. A 2023 WIT Early Career Awardee and recipient of the 2025 Carlotta Award (Special Mention) for her outstanding contributions to wheat genetic improvement, Dr Vero holds a PhD in Plant Genetics and Breeding from the University of Nottingham and Rothamsted Research (UK), and is also affiliated with the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). Her work bridges cutting-edge science and development impact integrating molecular breeding, agroecology, and value-chain innovation to advance sustainable agricultural systems across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Ms Joanna Fatch

Ms Joanna Fatch is a Malawian Social Scientist and Water Governance Expert currently based in Nigeria, serving as a Senior Policy Officer for Water Resources Management at the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW). With over 16 years of regional experience across Southern Africa, she has worked extensively on transboundary water governance, stakeholder engagement, and benefit-sharing initiatives in shared river basins. She holds an MSc in Environmental and Water Sciences, Integrated Water Resources Management, and Public Administration. Joanna brings a wealth of policy, research, and coordination expertise that strengthens commitment to sustainable resource management and climate resilience across Africa.

Mr Patrick Thawe

Patrick Thawe is an experienced Natural Resources Management and Climate Resilience Expert with more than 14 years of professional experience supporting communities, institutions, and development partners across Malawi and the region. His work focuses on climate change adaptation finance, clean energy solutions, resilient livelihoods, and integrated watershed management, where he has led major assignments involving project design, baseline studies, stakeholder engagement, and climate-related policy analysis. He is a highly skilled communicator with proven expertise in community mobilization, partnership development, program implementation, and technical advisory services. Patrick has worked with leading international organizations such as E Co., GIZ, Welthungerhilfe, University of Huddersfield, and ISET, providing guidance on climate adaptation financing, rural MSME resilience, natural resource governance, and environmental sustainability. His strong analytical background includes designing and conducting field assessments, data analysis, stakeholder mapping, and evaluation of donor-funded programs. Patrick holds both a Master of Science in Rural Development & Extension and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Bunda College, University of Malawi. His professional record demonstrates consistent ability to deliver high-quality research, strategic insights, and actionable recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and sustainable development efforts.

Ms Timalizge Munthali

Tima  holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Food Science and is currently pursuing a PhD in Nutrition‑Sensitive Agricultural Interventions at the University of Galway (Ireland). She is a researcher focused on linking agricultural production, particularly legumes, to improved dietary diversity and food security. Her work strengthens smallholder farmer access, promotes sustainable diets, and implements food‑safety interventions in Malawi. Combining rigorous academic training with hands‑on field experience, Tima contributes to building resilient, nutrition‑sensitive agrifood systems that enhance health and livelihoods for vulnerable communities.
