HarvestGlow coorperate with Farmers in Mchinji to Make Strong Ridges for a Better Harvest

In the heart of Mchinji District, the farming season had just begun. The fields were ready, and so were the farmers—thanks to HarvestGlow, an organization committed to improving agricultural practices in rural communities. Early in the morning, the HarvestGlow team arrived in the village with tools, training materials, and great enthusiasm. Farmers gathered eagerly, knowing that today they would learn modern methods of making strong and sustainable ridges. Mr. Phiri, one of HarvestGlow’s field trainers, stood before the group and demonstrated how to measure and space ridges correctly. “When ridges are properly made,” he explained, “they help retain moisture, prevent soil erosion, and increase yields. Whether you are planting maize, groundnuts, or sweet potatoes, a good ridge is the foundation of a good harvest.” The farmers divided into teams. Some used hoes while others used ox-drawn ploughs. HarvestGlow provided measuring ropes and marking sticks to ensure neat and uniform alignment. Even the women and youth joined in, showing great teamwork and dedication. As ridges stretched neatly across the field, excitement filled the air. “We have been making ridges for years,” said Kamanga, smiling proudly, “but today we learned how to make them better and stronger. With this knowledge, our yields will surely improve!” By midday, the field had transformed into perfectly shaped ridges, ready for planting. The HarvestGlow team congratulated the farmers and promised continued support throughout the season.
