Millet, Sorghum and Cowpeas Value chains
This cropping season, HarvestGlow will distribute improved millet, sorghum, and cowpea seed to farmer clubs across underserved communities, enabling smallholder farmers to diversify production with climate-resilient, high-value crops. Why does this matter? By giving farmers access to quality seed and linking them to training, aggregation, and markets, we are helping them move beyond subsistence farming toward profitable agribusiness. Expected benefits include: 🌱 Higher productivity through improved, quality seed.
🌾 Diversified harvests, reducing the risk of crop failure during droughts. 💰 Increased household income from selling grain and value-added products. 🥜 Additional income from cowpeas through both grain sales and livestock feed. 📈 Stronger Return on Investment (ROI) as resilient crops require fewer inputs, withstand climate shocks better, and have growing market demand. 🤝 Collective marketing through farmer clubs, improving bargaining power and access to better prices.
Farmer clubs also create opportunities for bulk purchasing of inputs, knowledge sharing, and collective marketing, allowing members to reduce production costs while increasing sales volumes. This translates into higher profit margins and more stable incomes throughout the season. At HarvestGlow, our goal is not simply to distribute seed we are building sustainable value chains that connect farmers from quality seed to profitable markets, ensuring that every harvest creates lasting economic opportunities for farming households
